For those of you with a student either applying to college or already in college, I’ve just added 19 scholarships to the list of college scholarships for students with a deceased parent for the 2026-2027 academic year. I also added a new category of scholarships for students who lost a parent to cancer. The list now totals 178 scholarships, separated into these categories:

  • Cancer – Scholarships for students who have lost a parent to cancer
  • Military – Scholarships for the children of deceased military personnel
  • First Responders – Scholarships for the children of deceased first responders
  • September 11 – Scholarships for the children of victims who died as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the resulting rescue and recovery efforts
  • General – This is a catch-all for all the college scholarships that are not specifically for children of military, first responders or victims of cancer or 9/11. They include general scholarships for students who lost a parent and also some that are specific to a state, school or cause of death, such as workplace accidents.

Some of the scholarships are not yet accepting applications so please check their websites regularly. A few haven’t yet published their application deadlines, but I’ll update the list as soon as they do. I’ll also continue to add scholarships as I come across new ones. Check out the list and contact me if you know of any scholarships that should be added to the list.
