For those of you with a student either applying to college or already in college, I’ve updated the list of college scholarships for students with a deceased parent for the 2026-2027 academic year. I added 12 scholarships and removed ones that are no longer funded, so the list now totals 160 scholarships, separated into these categories:

  • Military – Scholarships for the children of deceased military personnel
  • First Responders – Scholarships for the children of deceased first responders
  • September 11 – Scholarships for the children of victims who died as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the resulting rescue and recovery efforts
  • General – This is a catch-all for all the college scholarships that are not specifically for children of military, first responders or victims of 9/11. They include general scholarships for students who lost a parent and also some that are specific to a state, school or cause of death, such as cancer.

Some of the scholarships are not yet accepting applications so please check their websites regularly. Some haven’t yet published their application deadlines, but I’ll update the list as soon as they do. I’ll also continue to add scholarships as I come across new ones. Check out the list and contact me if you know of any scholarships that should be added to the list.
