For those of you with a student either applying to college or already in college, I’ve updated the list of college scholarships for students with a deceased parent for the 2025-2026 academic year. I’ve added 20 scholarships, so the list now totals 86 scholarships, separated into these categories.

  • Military – Scholarships for the children of deceased military personnel
  • First Responders – Scholarships for the children of deceased first responders
  • September 11 – Scholarships for the children of victims who died as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the resulting rescue and recovery efforts
  • General – This is a catch-all for all the college scholarships that are not specifically for children of military, first responders or victims of 9/11. They include general scholarships for students who lost a parent and also some that are specific to a state, school or cause of death, such as cancer.

Many of the scholarships will not accept applications until early 2025. Some haven’t yet published their application deadlines, but I’ll update the list as soon as they do. Check out the list and contact me if you know of any scholarships that should be added to the list.
